Project goals
Polymeric composite materials are in growing use in numerous applications, especially in automotive, aerospace and wind-energy industry. Barely visible and non-visible imperfections and flaws can occur during manufacturing and use of these structures. Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) can detect those defects and is particularly important for the products or components where failure or malfunction can have serious implications, including loss of hardware or the end-user protection. To perform these inspections without
contacting the part and when in multi-material assemblies represents an important technology advantage. Non-contact NDI technologies based on thermography and in the new laser shearography, successfully applied to polymer CFRP hardware, will be here tested for other market applications, such as car parts manufacturing.
